Now in its 20th year, this year’s lecture is being presented by Dr Vilas Navapurkar (pictured), Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia at the hospital.  He said: “The John Farman ICU (JF ICU) at Addenbrooke’s provides highly advanced and specialised care to keep critically ill patients alive; but a significant number of the most severely ill still die. Intensive care is the most technologically advanced, resource-intensive and expensive area of medicine and cares for the very sickest patients.”

Maintaining high quality care and outcomes is a real challenge when resources are stretched; but in the face of adversity can spring innovation.  In his lecture Dr Navapurkar will illustrate how the JF ICU and ACT are working together to develop novel “bioclinical” partnerships in Cambridge to deliver innovative care to the bedside now and for the future.

Samantha Sherratt, ACT’s head of supporter engagement said: “The Annual Lecture and Reception is ACT’s much-loved signature event. It is an opportunity for people from throughout the community to hear from leading clinical experts about how Addenbrooke’s is driving innovation in diagnosis, care and research. The reception which follows gives guests the chance to mingle with like-minded people, discuss the evening’s proceedings and talk about support of Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie hospitals. Please join us for a thought-provoking evening.”

Tickets are available from ACT for a suggested donation of £25. Proceeds will be used to benefit patient care throughout Addenbrooke's and the Rosie hospitals.

The event on 17 November is from 6pm-8pm at the CRUK Cambridge Institute on the Addenbrooke’s Hospital site.

Numbers for the event are limited, so book now to avoid disappointment. Tickets can be booked online at www.act4addenbrookes.org.uk/events or by phone on 01223 217757.
