Business Cloud Integration writes:
On launch, post preview, although there was still the ability to check out a document and discard check out, the ability to check the document back in again was gone. The only way to do it was to revert to the classic SharePoint view. This was not only confusing for our customers but meant that we needed to recommend setting the classic view as the default.
We are really pleased that the "check in" link is now back, and the new look document library has some great features, with customers champing at the bit to get the new look tiled view and better context menus.
While check in was missing however, we took the opportunity to ask whether we still needed it - the newer way of working collaboratively means that enforced check out on a document library is now a distant memory. This outage of the feature meant that the conversation was more easily addressed, and while it caused frustration from the missing fundamental menu action, it has also resulted in fewer lock file issues, and more open editing policies.
I'm not sure if Microsoft did this deliberately, but I know many are pleased to see the feature back for those customers wanting to switch to the new view.
We are still waiting for many other fixes in the new view, which are coming, and not just to preview tenancies. I'd love to see an updated document set, or the functionality of a document set being applied to a folder. Does anyone else have any other fixes / features they want to see on the new look document libraries?
