Sleep outside and help the homeless on Cambridge Byte Night

Intrepid people from a range of Cambridge Network member companies are preparing to sleep outside at Cambridge Airport on Byte Night (Friday October 2nd) to raise money for Action for Children.

Byte Night is the charity's biggest annual fundraiser; a national ‘sleep-out’ event. Each year, hundreds of like minded people from the technology and business arena give up their beds for one night to help change the lives of vulnerable young people.

It all began in 1998 when 30 individuals slept out in London and raised £35,000. Since then Byte Night has grown to eight UK locations. More than 1300 people slept out in 2014 and raised over £1.1 million.

Byte Night is one of the UK’s top 20 mass participation charity events and is the largest charity sleep-out, having raised over £7.2m since the first event.

Charles le Strange Meakin, a Partner at KPMG in Cambridge, said: " Action for Children’s flagship fundraising event helps combat the root causes of youth homelessness. There are over 80,000 young people homeless in the UK and this is unacceptable.

"As Co-chair of the East Anglia Byte Night board, I will be joining over 130 professionals from across the area who will be returning to Cambridge Airport on 2nd October to sleep under the stars for one night.

"I have been lucky enough to see, first-hand, the incredible work that Action for Children does within the region, and listened to some of the most personal stories from the inspirational young people that West Suffolk Shared Housing supports (one of the projects that Byte Night helps fund).
