Subsea development explored at Scottish Engineering Conference

The National Subsea Research Initiative (NSRI) will be explaining how it is promoting and facilitating increased Research and Development activities for the subsea sector at The Scottish Device Developers' Conference, to be held at Uphall on the 4th June.

NSRI is a the recognised focal point for the UK Subsea Industry supply chain, promoting and facilitating increased Research and Development activities for the industries such as Oil and Gas, Defence, Wave and Tidal Energy, Subsea Mining and Ocean Science.

The Scottish Device Developers' Conference is a one-day conference for embedded systems engineers and computer scientists involved in the development of intelligent systems and devices. It is an event that explores the very latest tools and technologies available and includes a vendor exhibition, half-day technical workshops and a series of informative technical presentations.

"It is shaping up to be a very worthwhile Conference this year," said Richard Blackburn, Conference Manager. "The Conference now attracts the world's leading experts, such as German company Lauterbach, a recognised leader in the field of debugging tools.”

"The Conference mostly attracts development engineers that are about to embark on new projects and need to explore their options with regards hardware, software and development tools. It is also a chance for them to discuss their projects with some of the world's leading experts in specific fields, such as display technology, networking technologies or software certification."

The NSRI facilitates partnerships between UK industry and academia with the aim of enabling technology development, and ultimately implementation, in the subsea arena.

The UK subsea industry is regarded as a UK success story, enjoying sustained growth.  According to Subsea UK (2013) the subsea sector comprises of 750 companies employing around 66,000 people generating revenues of nearly £9 Billion, and is set to grow yet further. Industry forecasts that potentially, by 2016, the industry will generate as much as £11 Billion.

The presentation will outline the NSRI, how to engage with them and how to get into the subsea sector for developmental activities.

Over 30 technology vendors have sponsored the event and many will be exhibiting and making presentations at the Scottish show. These include Edinburgh based embedded systems development consultants Abelon Systems.
