It’s always great when a constellation activity helps a client gain a different - and embodied - perspective on the unconscious ‘structure’ of their organisation.
However, for this sort of thing to work people need to engage, and that’s never guaranteed.
Engagement was definitely not a problem for Infinitesima Limited’s leadership team last week though. They really went for it, and took the ‘sensing’ nature of the exercise to heart whilst also holding it lightly and with good humour. We were really grateful to them for that.
The company’s highly skilled engineers spend their time working at sub-atomic scale. Their Oxford-based business is focused on developing novel metrology technology that brings 3D imaging to semiconductor manufacturing at speeds that weren’t possible before, and they are currently scaling up. Perhaps because of all that, it felt a bit of a stretch to ask them to step back to see the bigger picture whilst also looking under the surface at what was really going on.
But we needn’t have worried. As someone put it afterwards, engineers quite naturally take a systemic perspective.
The process of embodying how roles in an organisation are currently positioned in relation to one another and exploring what might be enabled by thoughtful movement, can reveal important information about the undercurrents of organisational life; about the ‘right place’ for certain roles, and what might currently be getting in the way of high performance. Provided for Infinitesima as part of a wider workshop on improving the ‘dynamic exchange’ of inputs and outputs between its divisions, we hope this short constellation has provoked some fresh perspective and deep thought.
It was a real pleasure to work with them!
Taking up positions in an organisation

How using a systemic constellation - a novel consultancy intervention in which people embody organisational dynamics - provided an engineering business with helpful insights into what might be inhibiting change.
