Until about a year ago the tools weren't reliable enough for widespread business use and the initial set up costs were prohibitive for all but the largest organisations. That's all changed now. The tools are quick to learn to use, very secure, and work really well for training, conferences and many other business applications using just an average PC and internet connection.
Visit has teamed up with the Realife Trust to engage with people with disabilities to help run the academy. Director Andy McCabe points out: "A virtual environment overcomes physical barriers and tiredness that can arise just in getting to places.
"We can use virtual environments to attend social events, meetings and training sessions but, perhaps even more importantly, disabled people can be directly involved in running these things themselves."
