POLATIS optical circuit switches
At the core of POLATIS® optical circuit switches is our patented DirectLightTM beam-steering technology that makes connections using compact piezoelectric actuators to align collimated beams of light from opposing arrays of input and output fibers with minimal loss, distortion or interference between paths. Alignment is maintained using feedback from integrated position sensors to ensure connection stability over time, temperature and external disturbances. Switching occurs completely independently of the power level, color or direction of light on the path or the signal protocol, enabling pre-provisioning of dark fiber. Unlike with Ethernet or Packet switches, optical signals are switched without conversion to electrical signals, and therefore all the traffic on a fiber is switched to the same endpoint. POLATIS® switches offer industry-leading optical performance with very low insertion loss, very low latency and fast switching (sub 50 ms).
POLATIS® optical circuit switches are available in matrix sizes from 4x4 to 384x384 (input x output) ports. Optional features include optical power monitors, variable optical attenuation and a “shutter” function that can simulate fiber breaks in network test applications.
POLATIS® optical circuit switches are a key component in the automation of Layer 1 (fiber layer) in networks and come with a number of APIs and command line interfaces as well as a user-friendly Web Gui to enable integration in network operation control systems.
POLATIS® optical circuit switches are used to:
