Product Development Engineer

Endomag aims to make a better standard of cancer care available to everyone. Many of the world’s leading physicians and hospitals use the company’s products to help women with breast cancer avoid surgery when it isn’t needed, and experience better outcomes when it is. Using the Sentimag® probe, physicians can perform both sentinel node biopsies with the lymphatic tracer (Magtrace®) and tissue localisation procedures with the magnetic marker (Magseed®). Endomag is headquartered in Cambridge, UK with an office in Austin, Texas. To date, the company has helped tens of thousands of women around the world access more precise and less invasive breast cancer care. This role is a critical part of the R&D team and the company is seeking driven, creative, communicative team members to help deliver on Endomag’s promise.

You will play a key role in Endomag development programmes, developing magnetic sensing systems for Endomag’s current and future surgical guidance products. 

Our cutting-edge medical device products are developed and manufactured in collaboration with a network of third-party suppliers, contract development organisations, and consultants who work alongside Endomag’s R&D team. You will contribute to multiple projects and coordinate with the other members of the R&D team and wider groups at Endomag. 

Part of your responsibility will be leading feasibility studies for improvements to Endomag’s line of magnetic detectors, internally and through third parties. We are looking for engineers who love solving highly complex problems on leading edge technology and who enjoy hands-on R&D. 

The position combines project management and hands-on activities, providing a unique variety to the role.

Endomagnetics is certified to ISO 13485 and development programmes projects will need to be operated and documented to relevant medical device standards. 

Key Responsibilities and duties: 

• Manage development projects from requirements definition and concept development through to transfer to manufacture, using external partners as required 
• Lead feasibility studies from definition of requirements to prototyping and detail design, using external partners as required 
• Setting up new experimental rigs 
• V&V tests 
• Data analysis 
• Technical reports 
• Integration of mechanical, electronic and software components for product development 
• Ensure timely delivery of project milestones in line with agreed budgets, and provide suitable interpretation to directors, managers and staff within the organisation 
• Ensure that projects are documented to comply with ISO 13485, working to Endomagnetics' Development process as outlined in the Quality System 

Qualifications 

• The successful applicant will have an excellent degree (or equivalent) in Electronics Engineering, Physics or closely related field. 

 

Experience and Knowledge 

• Solid grasp of physics and electronics engineering fundamentals 
• Experience with modelling and development tools e.g. Labview, SPICE, Comsol, Matlab. 
• Familiarity with mechanical design and materials science 
• 5 years’ experience in product development 
• Evidence of strong project leadership in a multi-disciplinary commercial environment 
• Evidence of experience in managing third parties to ensure quality and timely delivery of products 
• Familiarity with multi-disciplinary product design process 
• Excellent IT skills (MS Office)

• Experience in working for a small, dynamic organisation

• Willingness to occasionally travel within the UK and overseas.
