We are seeking a knowledgeable and highly motivated software or senior software engineer with cloud computing experience to join our expanding informatics team, who work collaboratively with our research team and their colleagues in our scientific production team. This is an exciting opportunity to join our accomplished and diverse organisation, recognised for its groundbreaking greenSynth™ DNA synthesis technology. The successful candidate will have a key role in the development of our cloud computing infrastructure, which allows us to scale up our technology and support innovative research activities and our multinational clients.
This is an office-based role, working within our flexible working policy.
Role Responsibilities
- Develop and implement secure cloud-based pipelines and web applications, in collaboration with lab scientists and clients
- Administer and expand cybersecurity and biosecurity processes
- Support the development of bioinformatic algorithms
- Data mining for continual technology improvements
- Train others in security best practices and the use of web applications
- Present results at internal company meetings and to external partners
Essential Skills and Experience
- Degree in computer science, maths, physics, computational biology or related field
- Cloud computing experience/certification, preferably AWS
- Python training/certification or extensive Python experience
- Experience of Linux and shell scripting
- Web application and API development, preferably Django, FastAPI
- Collaborative, can-do approach with excellent communication skills and desire to work as part of a high-performing team
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Cybersecurity and secure software development practices
- Bioinformatics
- Relational database design and development (SQL)
- Laboratory information management systems, preferably Benchling
- Experience handling large datasets (e.g. genomic sequencing analysis)
