Applications invited for funding for community projects

Local groups and organisations are being invited to seek grant-funding, over the next month, to help them take forward their plans for new or improved sports and community facilities or small public art projects in Cambridge.

The grants are available from the S106 developer contributions funding, collected by the city council to help address the impact of development in Cambridge. The bids need to be for building works and/or new equipment for facilities within the city, which will be open to everyone. Public art projects would need to involve an artist and local community engagement. The S106 funding cannot be used for running or maintenance costs or for projects outside Cambridge.

“This is a great opportunity for local groups which are ready to develop their sports or community facilities and serve their local communities better, but which need a bit more capital funding to turn their plans into reality,” said Councillor Richard Johnson, Executive Councillor for Community, Arts and Recreation.

There is a short application form to fill in, which is available to download from the Council’s website (www.cambridge.gov.uk/s106). Community groups and organisations are asked to submit their bids for funding by 8 December 2014. Applications will be assessed and reported to the relevant area or scrutiny committee early in 2015, so that priority-setting decisions can then be made.

The current developer contributions funding process will be followed by another S106 priority-setting round later in 2015 when there will be a further chance for local groups to seek grant funding and for local residents to identify needs for new or improved facilities that could involve management or delivery by the council.
