Apply for up to £5,000 to fund community activities that reduce inequality in Cambridge

Community groups that deliver activities to reduce inequality in Cambridge are invited to apply for up to £5,000 grant funding from Cambridge City Council’s Area Committee Community Grants scheme.

Voluntary and community organisations, or groups of local residents, can apply for the grants of up to £5,000 before the application deadline on 31 January 2024. Funded activities must take place between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2025. Grants could be spent on venue hire to host activities; costs to run activities that benefit people on low incomes; or activities that reduce poverty.

The activities would need to specifically benefit people with the highest needs living within one of the four Area Committee areas of the city:

  • North – covering Arbury, East Chesterton, King’s Hedges and West Chesterton
  • South – covering Cherry Hinton, Queen Edith’s and Trumpington
  • East – covering Abbey, Coleridge, Petersfield and Romsey
  • West Central – covering Castle, Market and Newnham.

The Area Committee Community Grants build on the wider Community Grants programme that launched earlier in the year. The difference between the two programmes is that the wider Community Grants programme funds groups that run city-wide activities, whereas the Area Committee Community Grants are for groups that provide local activities for residents living in one of the four areas of the city.

Cllr Rachel Wade, Executive Councillor for Communities, said: “Our community grants are so important to us because we recognise how much vital work is being done by groups of local people who are committed to their communities. Thank you to everyone who works so hard, often as volunteers, to run brilliant local projects.

“Whether you have a current project and you could do with up to £5,000 to continue running this, or you have a new idea to support people or prevent inequality in your part of the city, please apply for funding to support your work.”
