Cambridge Sustainable Food launches fundraiser to make sure that everyone in our city has enough food on the table this winter

“My bills, shopping and energy have all increased dramatically, especially food and I am terrified of going into debt which I will never be able to pay off.”

This quote, from a visitor to one of Cambridge's community food hubs, is sadly not unusual. While not always topping the headlines any more the cost of living crisis is still very much here. Food poverty and financial insecurity is a huge issue locally and this winter many people in Cambridge will struggle to make ends meet.

Cambridge Sustainable Food works hard year-round redistributing food around the city via seven community food hubs and other organisations who make sure that it gets to those who need it most.

We are hoping to bring a little Christmas cheer to those families who are facing food and financial insecurity by working in partnership with Cambridge City Foodbank and Cambridge City Council to provide Christmas hampers.

The Christmas hamper project will provide seasonal vegetables, festive food and a toy or game to families in need around the city. Last year we sent out over 650 hampers - this year looks set to be even more.

As well as stocking these hampers with seasonal vegetables we need help supplying food to the city's community food hubs.

But we can’t do this alone. Cambridge Sustainable Food needs the support of local people to make sure that every family in Cambridge has enough to eat this winter. A donation of £15 could fund vegetables for a family over the Christmas period, while £150 could keep one of the food hubs we support stocked for a whole week.

If you can, please donate here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-cambridge-families-with-vegetables

If you can't donate please consider volunteering your time with us. We need volunteer drivers and warehouse assistants - contact cath@cambridgesustainablefood.org for more information.

Thank you so much.
