Camcon announces shipping of two APOLLO units to PDO in Oman

Camcon Oil, a provider of innovative solutions to the oil & gas industry, announced today that two of its APOLLO Digital Intelligent Artificial Lift (DIAL) solutions are on their way to Oman ready to undertake comprehensive field testing with leading regional operator, Petroleum Development (Oman).

The deployment of APOLLO is part of a normal work over program for a high productivity onshore well for PDO where Camcon’s intelligent gas lift method will be used to improve the production performance of the well. Although a test installation, the equipment has been selected as the chosen method of lifting for the well. The installation of the first unit is expected in March with the second unit and test results to follow soon afterwards.

“This is a tremendously exciting stage in the development of both Camcon and the gas lift sector as a whole,” said Ian Anderson, Camcon COO. “For the first time, APOLLO will allow operators to access real time pressure and temperature information throughout the gas injection process and vary injection rates and depth in real-time without production interruption and well intervention.”

His words were backed up by Camcon CEO & Deputy Chairman, Danny Chapchal: “Over the last few months, we’ve worked extremely hard in establishing the manufacturing capabilities, distribution network, leadership team and technology expertise required to bring APOLLO to market. Great credit should go to the Camcon team on reaching this stage and we look forward to demonstrating to the industry how our digital gas lift solution will change the gas lift industry as we currently know it.”

APOLLO, part of Camcon’s Digital Intelligent Artificial Lift (DIAL) solutions portfolio, provides operators with accurate gas injection control and flexibility from a single asset.

At the core of the technology is an extremely low energy pulse control which signals to switch an actuator between two stable positions to digitally operate a valve. The six electrically actuated valves, opened individually or in specific combinations, enables the real-time setting of injection rates as opposed to conventional ‘side pocket mandrel-based’ gas lift, where wireline interventions are required to change injection depth and injection rates.

Through APOLLO, operators can look forward to increased recovery from existing oil fields with recent tests having found that APOLLO can deliver as much as 1,000 BOPD (Barrels of Oil per Day) more oil production from a typical well and, in one scenario, a 110% increase in production compared to traditional gas lift equipment.
