Checkit offers mobile monitoring for 24/7 food safety

Chefs, restaurant owners and other food production and service managers can now remotely monitor temperature and other food safety checks 24/7 from wherever they are using a smartphone or tablet.

The new Checkit wireless food safety monitoring system from Elektron Technology lets you keep track of the temperature, humidity and door status of cold storage, hot holding and food preparation areas, as well as ensuring hygiene checks have been completed, direct from the browser on your mobile device. And if problems occur, alerts are sent automatically, avoiding costly food spoilage and the risk of food-borne illness.

Checkit’s smart wireless sensors ensure continuous monitoring without the need for manual, paper-based checks. Wireless hand-held units collect food temperature and hygiene data at the press of a button and all of the time-stamped information is downloaded to a centralised database, which provides an instant view of food safety status. Checkit’s easy-to-use browser-based software clearly displays colour-coded readings from every sensor, so you can see exactly what’s going on at a glance.

“A faulty refrigerator or a door left open can result in thousands of pounds of wasted food, while a food-borne illness or failure to meet legal hygiene requirements could lead to unwanted headlines and costly litigation,” says Dr. Martin Nash, Product Manager at Elektron Technology. “Being able to keep track of real-time data on a smartphone or tablet by using a familiar and simple-to-use interface further reduces these risks and provides peace of mind.”

In addition to providing round-the-clock monitoring, Checkit automatically generates food safety compliance reports, along with a full audit trail to speed up time-consuming and costly Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point (HACCP) processes.

The complete Checkit system can be leased from under £100 per month, making it affordable to any size of food service business. The fully modular, user-installable system can be up and running within 30 minutes and is fully scalable from a single local site through to demanding multi-site operations managed from a single location.

“Restaurants and foodservice or production operations are under increasing pressure to reduce costs and often rely on inexperienced staff and managers to undertake hygiene procedures,” says Martin Nash. “With around a million people suffering a food-borne illness in the UK every year, it is important that we harness the latest in wireless and mobile technology to reduce these figures and help businesses reduce the time and money spent on manual monitoring and hygiene checks.”
