Doctors know best

Cambridge consultants Mr Richard Hardwick, general surgeon, and Mr Nimish Shah, consultant urologist, have been included in the 2018 “Top Doctors List” compiled and reported in The Daily Mail.

The list is non-scientific and features the top five to 10 per cent of medics internationally who have been identified as good doctors by their peers. Both consultants, who work at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital, went through a rigorous selection process including an audit, nominations from other leading clinicians, further endorsement from key decision makes and an interview.

A peer of Mr Richard Hardwick commented: “I’d be happy to have any member of my family operated on by him.”

In turn, Mr Hardwick said: “I have been touched by people’s response to this news item. It is always nice to be acknowledged. It’s also important to remember that a surgeon works as part of a team. We are very lucky in Cambridge to have great teams working with us to deliver high quality healthcare.”

Mr Shah was described as having “beautiful skill and is a very balanced opinion – in other words, he will be honest about all the treatment options, not only surgical.”

Neil McCullough, Hospital Director at Spire Cambridge Lea commented: “We are delighted Richard and Nimish have made this prestigious list and have been recognised for their excellent work by their peers. They are great surgeons to work with and we know their enormous amounts of experience and expertise benefits our patients.”
