Driverless cars: what's the story?

Trials led by the UK Autodrive consortium will be taking place over the next few years to test both the technology and public reaction to autonomous vehicles, which may be in our cities soon. The next Cambridge Network Business Lecture on Tuesday 21st April will focus on both the technology within these ‘cars’ and public reaction to them.

The event will feature two speakers:

  • Dr Graeme Smith is CEO of Oxbotica, whose navigation systems will feature in the driverless car trials taking place in Milton Keynes. Graeme will be speaking about the technological challenges and solutions that Oxbotica have had to address in developing driverless car technology and this project in particular.
  • Dr Nick Reed will talk about the GATEway project (Greenwich Automated Transport Environment). The project will test a range of different automated vehicles and examine public acceptance and industry engagement with each. It will also include the use of DigiCar (TRL’s high fidelity driving simulator) and will examine opportunities for improvements to traffic management through vehicle to infrastructure communication.

Taking place from 6pm at The Hauser Forum (3 Charles Babbage Road, Cambridge CB3 0GT), this event should be of interest to anyone wanting to know more about the future of our urban environments, such as engineers, CTOs and CSOs, IT embedded software engineers, academics working in this field and policymakers, among others.
