Eagle achieves ISO27001 certification with the help of IT Governance

Eagle, the specialist in bioinformatics service solutions, has been awarded an ISO27001 certification following an intensive implementation project supported by IT Governance Ltd, the global leader in information security and ISO27001 expertise.

ISO27001 is a widely-adopted global security standard that sets out requirements and best practices for a systematic approach to managing company and customer information that is based on periodic risk assessments.

Eagle are leaders in the field of management and analysis of genomic data, including Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). They are also experienced in helping customers plan, pilot, and migrate their existing bioinformatics systems into the Cloud. Given the nature of this enormously valuable genomic data, clients require Eagle to demonstrate compliance with ISO27001.

Eagle gained certification after using the IT Governance’s FastTrack™ ISO27001 Consultancy Service.

Abel Ureta-Vidal, Chief Operations Officer at Eagle, said: “We saw at once that IT Governance’s ISO27001 FastTrack™ package removed the need to invest significant time, money and effort in researching and acquiring the skill-set necessary to implement an information security management system on our own.

Abel Ureta-Vidal added: “IT Governance’s assistance in carrying out our risk assessment was invaluable – and I can say that we are much stronger as a management team making decisions by knowing what the threats really are and what we need to do to mitigate them. Our risk matrix is seen by the Board as a key management tool, with a purpose that goes far beyond basic cyber security. We now use our ISO27001 risk assessment matrices to review our suppliers.”

On gaining certification, David Flanders, CEO of Eagle, said: "Eagle’s reputation for excellence in parallelizing the processing of vast amounts of highly-sensitive genomic data and clearing bottlenecks in a cost-effective and efficient way is further enhanced by our ISO27001 certified status.”

Steve Watkins, Director of Training and Consultancy at IT Governance, commented, “We are delighted that Eagle have been awarded ISO27001 certification. Eagle put their trust into our team to help them achieve certification in just three months, following a referral from another client, and we are very pleased with the results achieved.’

Where ISO 27001-certification is a pre-requisite for a public or private sector contract, the FastTrack™ ISO27001 Consultancy Service is the logical option for resource-constrained  organisations – and, with the IT Governance’s track record of success, it is the certain route to certification.

The FastTrack™ ISO27001 Consultancy Service is specifically designed to prepare small organisations (19 employees or fewer) for UKAS-accredited certification to ISO/IEC 27001:2005 in just three months. There is a one-off, fixed-price consultancy fee which covers everything bar travel and third party certification fees.
