Echion Technologies to showcase its innovative technology in Sky TV documentary

Cambridgeshire based battery materials innovators, Echion Technologies (Echion), will feature in the forthcoming Sky documentary titled ‘The Drive Towards Sustainability’. The 30-minute-long programme will explore the role that Echion’s unique XNO® battery anode materials will play in the global energy transition, and will air on 2 April at 10:30, and 7 May at 10:30 AM, on Sky channel 181.

Echion

Formed in the labs of the University of Cambridge, Echion is the world’s leading supplier of Niobium-based anode materials. ‘The Drive Towards Sustainability’ will go behind the scenes of Echion’s headquarters in Sawston, Cambridgeshire, and will feature in depth interviews with Chief Executive Officer and co-founder, Jean de La Verpilliere, Chief Technology Officer and co-founder Dr Alex Groombridge, and Chief Product Officer, Loubna El-Ouatani.

The programme will detail the company’s journey from first experimenting with battery technology to becoming an industry leader, as well as illustrate the benefits of Echion’s niobium-based anode material, XNO®. Lithium-ion batteries equipped with XNO® anode materials are able to safely fast charge in less than 10 minutes, maintain high energy densities, even at low temperatures, and deliver high power across a cycle life of more than 10,000 cycles. Echion’s target market includes battery electric and hybrid trains, mining haul trucks, high-demand buses and delivery vehicles as well as applications in motorsport and space.

Jean de La Verpilliere, CEO of Echion Technologies, said: “I am pleased that Echion has been chosen to demonstrate and showcase its expanding capabilities as part of the ‘The Drive Towards Sustainability’ programme. It is no secret that current EV battery technologies are not well suited for large industrial vehicles such as trains, haulage trucks and busses. Electrifying these high value applications in the right way, using XNO® anode materials to uniquely unlock the solution, is vital if we are to achieve global decarbonisation targets and build a sustainable future.”
