Mill Road may be famous for its amazing food and drink offering – with its many international stores, coffee shops and restaurants. However, it’s also good to know that for those practical items we all need, this area of the city is very lucky to have Mill Road Home & Garden.

Formerly called Kailash, this very handy shop has gone through an amazing transformation, both looks-wise and product-wise and stocks all you could need to ‘grow your own and make your own’ – whatever that may be, all under one roof without resorting to boutique prices!

For gardening fans there are seeds galore for growing flowers and vegetables and all the tools you need too. If you prefer pickling and preserving, then the shop's range of classic Kilner jars will come in very useful and look great in your kitchen. Or you could turn your hand to cheese making with one of the great kits from the folks at the Big Cheese Making Kit. With these you can try making mozzarella or giving goats cheese a go!

Owner Mahesh Gohel, with help from manager Steve Wynn (pictured with Mahesh and who has worked on Mill Road for over 50 years), has built up a pretty impressive range for the home brewer, selling tried and tested beer kits, made by Muntons in Suffolk and using malt from the best quality East Anglian barley.

The shop also carries a range of home and hardware products – from light bulbs to saucepans to compost and if they don’t have something, they are happy to order it and home deliver. Proud to be old fashioned, the team know their products, value their customers and provide a personal service, all while aiming to be ‘the most useful shop in Cambridge’.
