Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) has received a £300k boost to its degree apprenticeship provision and will also open a new School of Apprenticeships dedicated to delivering excellence in these work-based qualifications.

ARU has received £311,763 from the Office for Students to support the growth of a mixture of new and existing apprenticeship courses: Construction Quantity Surveyor; Construction Site Management; Manufacturing Engineer; Supply Chain Leadership Professional; Environmental Practitioner; and Digital and Technology Solutions Professional.

In addition, ARU is to open a dedicated School of Apprenticeships to act as a point of engagement for employer partners and bring together staff working on apprenticeships from across the institution.

ARU is one of the nation’s leading providers of degree apprenticeships, working with more than 700 apprenticeship partners. Last year, ARU had one of the largest intakes of degree apprenticeships in the UK. Currently, degree apprenticeships make up approximately 10% of ARU’s total student population, and this percentage is growing.

Professor Claire Pike, Pro Vice Chancellor for Education Enhancement at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), said: “Degree apprenticeships are a key part of ARU’s civic mission, working with employers to grow and foster the talent they need for their organisations to thrive – now, and in the future.

“The new ARU School of Apprenticeships highlights the growing importance of these qualifications and will bring together staff from across the university, improving the infrastructure and increasing our potential for growth.

“The degree apprenticeships that will be supported by this new funding award meet key needs in the construction, technology, supply chain and engineering sectors The funding will also enable us to launch new initiatives that will help us increase the diversity and equality of opportunity in our apprenticeship provision, such as supporting women to access careers in construction.”
