HiveMind with Karl Jones - Revenge of the electric car

Marshall Aerospace and Defence’s Karl Jones, will be joining Marshall Centre for its latest HiveMind to talk about the revenge of the electric car and all things sustainable.

Marshall Centre writes:

Karl will take us through the history of electric cars, starting with when electric carriages were common place in the late 1800s, and some major cities even had public charging infrastructure. However, the introduction of mass produced vehicles with petrol engines in the early 1900s quickly made these new alternative fuel vehicles affordable and accordingly the electric carriage was side-lined to the history books.

In 2030 the sale of new vehicles with petrol/diesel engines will be banned in the UK as part of the Government’s initiative towards net zero emissions by 2050. This HiveMind session gives you the opportunity to talk to our Chief Systems Engineer, Karl Jones about his experiences of running a fully electric vehicle as a main family car. Karl will talk about the FAQ people ask him about electric cars, he will talk about the UK National Grid in the context of this energy transition and he will make time for you to ask questions you might have about your own transition to zero emissions vehicles based upon his own experiences and his research.

Karl has a background in avionics, software, EMC, systems integration, systems engineering and he is an airworthiness signatory. He has a strong interest in the energy transition and the environment and has been driving electric cars since 2016 as part of his own efforts to cut emissions.

If you’re around this Friday 18 June at 12:30pm then email Janine.hornsby@marshallcentre.com to join us, don’t miss out on this inspirational session!
