Located in one of central Cambridge’s historic passage ways, linking Bridge Street to St John’s Street, is a small cluster of excellent independent shops including the beautiful and enticing Prohibido Lingerie.
Originally from Barcelona in Spain, owner Mercedes Lee has brought a strong sense of European style and characteristic warmth to her boutique and with over ten years of experience in the lingerie business, her knowledge ensures she provides a stunning product range as well as an excellent lingerie fitting service to her customers.
This expertise was rewarded when, after only opening the door to Prohibido in 2010, in 2011 the shop won the Best Newcomer category in the national Stars: Underlines Best Shop Awards, which pays homage to the excellence of retailers throughout the UK and Ireland. Pretty good going in such a short space of time!
The contemporary brands stocked are from all over the world and cover the spectrum of fun fashion and everyday through to exclusive designer and classic elegance. Brands available include Stella McCartney, Pleasure State, Vivis Silk, Eberjey, La Perla and many others.
Prohibido also has a great range of lovely swimwear, lounge wear and nightdresses.
Mercedes has also been meticulous when it comes to the boutique’s design and layout – giving it a wonderfully intimate and luxurious ‘boudoir’ feel. Keeping her customers’ comfort at the top of her list, a generous amount of the shop’s space has been dedicated to the changing room area. Sumptuous curtains can be rearranged to suit one customer or up to 15 for the numerous ‘lingerie parties’ Mercedes and her team offers.
