Independent Cambridge - something brewing down by the tracks

Tucked away in Hooper Street, Cambridge, near the railway line, another family-run independent business is forging ahead, writes Anne Beamish, editor of Independent Cambridge, the book which celebrates the wide range of retailers, artisans and craftspeople we have on our doorstep.

Anne says: "Brothers Sam and Tom Calverley have been passionate about brewing for some time and have taken the step to start their own craft brewery - Calverley’s.

"They brew a nicely-rounded, smooth amber ale - their Best Bitter - and are open on Saturdays 11am-4pm for fresh takeaway ale. Also available on draft at The Architect, Castle Hill."
