A Great Shelford based independent audiology clinic has been selected to be the first in Cambridgeshire to offer hi-tech, invisible hearing aids.

angli-EAR Hearing, on Woollards Lane, Great Shelford are the first in the county to offer Phonak Lyric, a 100% invisible hearing aid that can be worn 24 hours a days, 7 days a week for months at a time even when exercising, sleeping, or showering.

Unlike traditional hearing aids, which are worn outside the ear, Lyric sits deep inside the ear canal, close to the eardrum, for complete external invisibility.

Trevor Chapman, Lead Audiologist at angli-EAR Hearing explains: “Lyric is a huge benefit for many of those with hearing loss who want a completely hidden solution.  Fitting Lyric devices requires specialist training and a high-powered microscope to ensure the best and most comfortable fit. We are delighted to be the first audiology clinic in Cambridgeshire to offer this unique hearing solution.

“Due to the design of Lyric, after our team’s expert placement, the device can be left within your ear canal for weeks at a time. You won’t even feel it’s there. Its soft, biocompatible foam seals adapt to the natural contouring of your ear canal – and although it’s small, it’s mighty. Sounds are amplified clearly. And, best of all, it's out of sight and out of mind.”

As well as assisting with hearing loss, Phonak Lyric has also been shown to provide relief from tinnitus symptoms. The constant ringing, whistling or buzzing associated with the condition can be a daily frustration, and, while there is no cure for tinnitus, hearing devices such as Lyric can help by reducing aggravation through the day and improving sleep quality at night.

Also unique is Lyric’s pay monthly subscription model from angli-EAR Hearing. The device stays in the ear for 6-9 weeks before needing to be replaced by a member of the Lyric trained audiology team at regular check up intervals.

Trevor adds: “Normally we advise clients ‘never to put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear’ so Lyric is definitely an exception to that rule! Its micro-engineered technology means it is a truly revolutionary hearing solution.”
