All CDLS members who are Solicitors, Barristers, Legal Executives, or Licensed Conveyancers, or who are training to qualify as such, are eligible for nomination for the CDLS Awards, which this year fall into three categories.

Nominated for Trainee of the Year are Matt Hasler and Alex Waples, both of Tees Law, and Josephine Russen of Jeffrey Mills. Jack Burroughs of Ashtons Legal, Silvia Devecchi of Miller Sands, Joshua Walters of Fenners and Emma Watson of Mills & Reeve are up for the Young Lawyer of the Year award. Finally, Miller Sands and Slater & Gordon contend to be named Firm of the Year in the awards, which are once again sponsored by Geodesys, providers of conveyancing searches and reports for residential and commercial properties and land. Alongside the Society’s Excellence Awards, honours will also be presented to the award winners from the law faculties of Cambridge University and Anglia Ruskin University.

The awards will be judged anonymously based on nominations from candidates' firms or faculties, which include details of the skills and achievements for which they are nominated. Winners will be announced at the Society’s annual dinner on Friday (31 March 2017), which will take place at Christ's College in Cambridge.

The event, already a sellout, will see over 100 guests attend the Society's flagship social event, including Professor Dominic Regan as guest speaker. Professor Regan is one of the UK’s foremost speakers on costs and dispute resolution, with experience including advising Lord Justice Jackson on costs budgeting and management. He is a much sought-after speaker who we look forward to welcoming to Christ’s College.
