New 3D SPI PCB kit is a UK first

The first UK installation of an ALeader 3D solder paste inspection (SPI) unit is underway in OSI Electronics UK's PCB assembly hall in St Neots.  The ALeader 3D SPI system allows the surface mount printing process to be automatically corrected before solder paste volumes move out of tolerance. It also provides real-time closed-loop feedback directly to a new Europlacer printer the company has also purchased.

OSI Electronics UK has just installed an ALeader 3D SPI solder paste inspection unit (the first in the UK) along with a Europlacer SP710-AVi printer as part of upgrading its SMT hall to meet its customers' requirements at its St Neots, Cambridgeshire, HQ.

OSI Electronics UK is in the process of installing a new Europlacer screen printer and ALeader 3D solder paste inspection (SPI) combination in its PCB assembly hall at its St Neots HQ – the ALeader 3D SPI is the first to be installed in the UK.  They fit alongside its five Europlacer iineo+ pick and place machines, to give it greater PCB flexibility.

"They enhance our objective of delivering absolute quality to our customers across all market sectors, including those in quality-critical environments such as medical electronics," says John Harley, OSIE UK's Director Business Development, UK & EMEA.

The ALeader 3D SPI system is the first to provide real-time closed-loop feedback directly to the new Europlacer printer – and to allow the surface mount printing process to be automatically corrected before solder paste volumes move out of tolerance.

Flexi-rigid and large boards

The PCBs OSIE UK assembles include many sophisticated and high-value boards which regularly feature BGAs and complex ultra-fine-pitch components, including a 12-layer, A3 sized flex-rigid assembly.

The new Europlacer SP710-AVi printer adds an extra dimension to the manufacturing capability – the ability to handle large boards up to 610 x 515 mm.
