Shanghai to set up Sino-German University of Science and Technology

This week the MOU was signed to start the set up of the Sino-German University of Science and Technology, to be located in Lingang, Shanghai. Lingang is the home of the Lingang Cambridge Network, which EFEC helped to establish in 2019.

This university will be established on the basis of the model of the German University of Applied Sciences, in Shanghai Lingang New Area.

The MOU was signed by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Tongji University, the International Cooperation Federation of German Universities of Applied Sciences, Berlin University of Technology and Economics Applied Sciences, Zwickau West Saxon University of Applied Sciences, Zitao/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and another six parties.

Fang Shouen, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tongji University, said that learning from the mature experience of German partners in the field of applied higher education, China and Germany jointly established a high-level applied university in the Lingang New Area, a pioneer for Shanghai to play a leading role in the comprehensive reform of education. It is an innovative move to fill the gaps in domestic and foreign cooperative education based on the advantages of testing, and it also provides a first-class stage for German applied higher education to go global and explore a more international talent training model.

The signing of this memorandum is an important exploration for the common needs of the industries of the two countries, and it is an important exploration for jointly creating a demonstration model for high-quality engineering talent training. Another important milestone of win-win cooperation.

The proposed Shanghai Sino-German University of Science and Technology will carry out work with the concept of "sustainable development, energy utilization and climate change".

Shanghai Sino-German University of Science and Technology will actively expand the cooperation platform with German universities, strengthen cooperation with German cooperative universities, and other international companies in Shanghai. The University will also aim to promote the cultivation of skills in the Yangtze River Delta region of China and provide support for German companies in China.
