Stone King hosts free Immigration Workshop series

Cambridge law firm Stone King is running a series of free workshops in July designed to offer insight into various aspects of immigration sponsorship for a range of organisations, in particular charities, the education sector and religious orders.

Julie Moktadir, Stone King

The Immigration Workshop series is being presented by Julie Moktadir, immigration expert and partner at Stone King (pictured), who is based at the firm's Cambridge office, and sessions will include the opportunity to ask questions.

Julie says: “The rules and guidelines around immigration can be complex and confusing, particularly as for most organisations this is something they have to deal with alongside their day-to-day, and yet the consequences of getting it wrong or missing relevant deadlines can be significant and damaging. In this series I will talk through the various aspects of immigration sponsorship across several sectors and most importantly I will weave in any answers to questions that people have as we go. I make my sessions as interactive as possible.”

The three Q&A style sessions for sponsor license holders will be aimed at different sectors. A session on 7 July will look at the education sector, including Tier 4 and Tier 2 sponsorship, ranging from Tier 4(child) visa issues, to the sponsorship of teachers and whether the Resident Labour Market Test is needed.

On 21 July a session will focus on religious orders, including sponsorship issues relating to Tier 2 (Ministers of Religion) visas and Tier 5 (Religious Worker) visas. Julie will cover topics from English language testing, recent developments in Tier 5 sponsorship, and the exemptions that may apply under the Resident Labour Market Test to this group.

The final session in the series, on 29 July, will focus on charitable organisations and particularly on the eligibility and suitability criteria for sponsors. Consideration will also be given to Tier 5 (Charity Worker) visas and the pitfalls that some organisations face.

Following each session, a recording will also become available on the firm’s website, including a previously recorded webinar aimed at senior leaders and HR professionals on the general topic of right to work checks, including the different documentation required depending on when employment commenced, a run-through of government guidance and a look at the potential penalties.
