Diana Minns and Annie Taylor, Women’s Homelessness Action Group (WHAG) coordinators, spoke to Neil Whiteside as part of his series on homelessness and the support available in Cambridge and surrounding districts.

Many have the view that homelessness mainly affects white men, as this group is most visible on the streets. However, Annie spoke about how women often remain under the radar, sofa surfing to avoid the dangers of rough sleeping, and how this brings it’s own risks.

WHAG’s current focus is on making the case for a dedicated haven for vulnerable women looking for support and advice at night. They also discussed the need for a more coordinated, trauma informed service where women do not have to repeat their stories to multiple agencies in order to receive help.

Listen to the interview and please get in touch if you are an individual or organisation wishing to support the vital work of WHAG.
