Varicella outbreak in East Anglia and rotavirus vaccine

After a brief shortage of vaccine, The Travel Clinic (Cambridge and Ipswich) now has the Varicella vaccine available again. There are regular outbreaks of chickenpox throughout East Anglia and many parents are becoming aware of the varicella vaccination.

Many other countries around the world give varicella vaccination as part of their childhood immunisation programme.

The Travel Clinic says: "Many clients who are working and living in the UK but are from other parts of the world want to follow their country of origin immunisation programme. We can offer the two-part vaccination here at the clinic. The first dose is given on day one and the second dose between four and eight weeks later. Varicella is able to be given after the age of one year old and is a live vaccine.

"We can also give the rotavirus vaccine, which protects against rotavirus gastroenteritis, which again is used in many countries childhood immunisation programmes. This is a live vaccine given to babies orally and can be given from the age of six weeks to 24 weeks old. It is a two dose course and there needs to be at least four weeks between each dose."

Should you be interested in any of the above vaccines, please contact The Travel Clinic on 0845 5480 543.
