Youth STEMM Award showcased to employers on innovative digital platform

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Region of Learning has partnered with Youth STEMM Award, the leading awarding body for Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine (STEMM) enrichment, to offer digital badges to young people who have completed the Award.

Youth STEMM Award has created three exclusive badges in collaboration with the Navigatr platform to support young people in the region with pursuing their future career. The badges are awarded to young people who have completed the Bronze, Silver and Gold levels of the Youth STEMM Award.

By completing STEMM-based activities at school, at home or online, participants can demonstrate their individuality and commitment to a career in STEMM by creating a unique portfolio of career-related work and learning experiences on the Navigatr platform. Digital badges are a new type of digital certificate which enables young people to track and display to future employers the skills they have gained through the varied learning experiences outside of the classroom, adding value to applications for higher education, training, and jobs.

Dr Samantha Fox, Co-Founder and Director, Youth STEMM Award, said: “We’re very excited about our partnership with CPRoL to provide digital completion badges to our Award participants. The digital badges are an exciting new way for young people to showcase their achievement at completing an Award alongside our existing physical medals and certificates. This new addition means badges can be shared online to demonstrate proficiency to potential employers and peers, with the added benefit that they will link through to detail about what was involved in reaching the level. We’re excited to be at the forefront of this development and look forward to seeing the positive impact the digital badges will have on our participants’ educational journeys.”

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Region of Learning is a region-wide initiative launched in July 2022. It brings together local employers and education providers to recognise and reward informal learning and skills as well as provide new work opportunities for young people, and boost social mobility within the region.

Youth STEMM is one of the many learning providers already working with CPRoL to provide learning opportunities for young people across the region. The full badge collection offered by Youth STEMM Award can be viewed here. Additionally, if you’re interested in how to develop your own badges and provide learning and working opportunities for young people in the region, you can find out more information here.
