A glow in the dark path in Cambridge which is the first of its kind in the world has become the star of a promotional film.
The path across Christ’s Pieces has become a media sensation since it was completed, and now Cambridge Filmworks has produced a promotional film about the innovation.
The illumination comes from ultraviolet particles in the pavement at the Cambridge beauty spot which absorb energy during the day and release it as light overnight.
It is hoped the technology could one day replace street lamps as a cheaper and more energy efficient form of lighting. No mains power is required.
The trial, which is being carried out by Surrey-based Pro-Teq Surfacing with the city council’s permission, saw the luminous particles laid on top of the existing path and then sprayed with a protective film.
Cambridge Filmworks, which is run by Adam Giles, from Ely, and Richard Millen, from Hemingford Grey, used a time-lapse camera to capture the process while they filmed an interview with Neil Blackmore from Pro-Teq Surfacing.
Adam said: “It’s great to be involved with a world first and it’s fitting that this new technique is being trialled in Cambridge – a
hotbed of innovation.”
Richard added: “Many of the broadsheets and
tabloids have picked up on the story and the video’s gone viral, in fact in 24 hours the film had over 6,000 views on YouTube.”
