Opportunity to save business rates at Haverhill Research Park

Business rates relief of up to £275,000 over five years is offered as an incentive to the first company to move into a bespoke property at Haverhill Research Park by St. Edmundsbury Borough Council, the local rating authority.

This will be a major benefit for the new 450,000 sq ft research park putting it on a par and offering similar advantages to Enterprise Zone areas.

Nic Rumsey, director of Carisbrooke developers of the park says: "This is an attractive incentive that when combined with the real cost advantages over the conventional Silicon Fen location of South Cambridge makes it an attractive location for research based companies.”

The 20-acre park will offer up to 2,000 jobs in a low density and high quality landscaped environment where people and businesses can interact and thrive By June, the Park will be open for business with all plots fully serviced. Occupiers could be operating within a purpose built property in 2014.

Ian Gallin, Chief Executive of the St Edmundsbury Borough Council, commented: "Haverhill Research Park will provide the ideal infrastructure for forging links between academia and private enterprise and we are seeking to incentivise companies to come to Haverhill by offering this rates holiday.”

The Park will provide a maximum of 450,000 sq ft of office / laboratory / technology and supporting accommodation for a wide spectrum of companies from start-ups to global players.

Proposals being worked up include an Innovation Centre, grow on space and bespoke buildings together with a hotel, restaurant and crèche. Marstons Brewery will soon be building a family pub and house developer Taylor Wimpey is shortly to commence a 150 unit residential development on land adjacent to the site.
