Tame your computer - give it a squeeze

Last week I told you how to squeeze a few last rows or columns onto a single page in Excel. There is a similar functionality available in Word, but since version 2010 this option is hidden away. (If you are still using version 2007, you can find the Shrink One Page button on the Print Preview ribbon.)

So why not stick the Shrink One Page command onto your Quick Access Toolbar?

Here's how:

1.       Click on the arrow on the right side of the Quick Access Toolbar.

2.       Click on More Commands.

3.       In the Choose commands from drop-down list, select All Commands.

4.       Scroll down and double-click on Shrink One Page.

5.       Click OK.

 
Next time you want to squeeze those last lines onto a single page, simply click the Shrink to Fit button on your Quick Access Toolbar and Word will attempt to shrink the document to one page by slightly reducing the size and spacing of the text.

By the way, the new button will be added at the far end of the toolbar, which might not be the spot where you want it, so if you want you can move it to your desired location on the Quick Access Toolbar; see this tip if you need a hand.
