ViewRanger named as finalist in search for UK’s Most Innovative Mobile Company

ViewRanger, the app for adventure, has been selected as one of just six finalists in the search to find the UK’s Most Innovative Mobile Company.

ViewRanger has created a global outdoor navigation app and publishing platform and is rapidly building a worldwide community of active consumers who are using ViewRanger to plan, navigate, record and share their outdoor adventures.

The SmartUKProject, supported by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), aims to discover and showcase smaller companies with great ideas that have the potential to disrupt the mobile industry globally. A short list of 20 companies pitched to the judges, of which six have been selected to present at Mobile World Congress.

Commenting on ViewRanger, the judges said: “The impressive early growth and the innovative technology has driven the company to a position of leadership.”

Craig Wareham, co-founder of ViewRanger says the company focuses on delivering a service that outdoor users need.  “Our app is easy to use for Sunday afternoon walkers and robust enough for search and rescue teams. We are continuing to innovate and this includes an intelligent navigation mechanism that takes into account the physical fitness of the user when recommending routes.”

The finalists for the Smart UK Project 2014 are ETAOI Systems (5TILES app); Obvious Engineering (Seene app); RouteShoot; SQR Systems; uMotif and ViewRanger.

The six finalists now go on to make final presentations to the judging panel during Mobile World Congress. After this one of the finalists will be crowned UK’s Most Innovative Mobile Company, receiving the award at the event.

Separately, ViewRanger has also been selected to showcase its app within the UK Pavilion at Mobile World Congress.  You can meet the ViewRanger team in Hall 7, Booth 7C40.
