CogniDox enhances Information Security features in new Version 8.8

Cognidox Limited, a leading provider of smart product document management technology, has launched a new version for its flagship software platform. Version 8.8.0 has additional Information Security features to help protect companies against the growing threat of insider vulnerabilities.

The new release includes security features for Private Workspaces; Virtual Group Security Profiles; LDAP and Active Directory system groups linking to CogniDox role groups; and a plug-in for the open source ClamAV anti-virus engine designed for detecting Trojans, viruses, malware, and other malicious threats. These features build upon the security controls required for e.g. ISO 27001 Information Security system certification.

Viruses, data loss and hacking are top security risks, but last year Forrester found that 36 percent of breaches stemmed from inadvertent misuse of data by employees. It was the single largest source. So, while a company should never stop looking outwards at inbound threats, it's just as important to keep an eye on internal data access and how data is allowed outside company boundaries.

Balanced against the security risk is the need to share information for effective collaboration. Information security must build upon server and network security controls to provide extra features for information visibility and access, but in a way that does not significantly reduce the functionality and availability of that information.

These features are just four of the 52 new enhancements in 8.8.0. One of our key metrics is how many of these new features directly result from customer suggestions, and the result is consistent with our previous release at 40%.

The latest release comes towards the end of a year of rapid growth for the company, which has seen its global customer base extend from Silicon Valley to New Zealand; with many other new customers in Europe and the Middle East. Locally, CogniDox is now used by nearly 1 in 5 of the “Killer 50” Cambridge companies as identified by the local media.

Release 8.8.0 is available for download from the Cognidox support site and is free for all customers with a current subscription.
