Wireless industry finds increasing value in service centric business models

The forthcoming CW Future of Wireless International Conference will address the growing trend of wireless companies drifting away from product innovation.

 

The CW Future of Wireless International Conference (FWIC) will make its London debut on 23rd and 24th June, bringing together a host of experts to discuss the potentially turbulent future of the wireless industry. A key topic on the agenda for the conference is the increasing number of wireless companies finding additional value in transitioning from a product to a service focused business model.

This trend is exemplified by the problems now facing the smartphone market, with product design lacking differentiation and companies increasingly competing over price rather than innovation. But while this market may be nearing a point of stagnation, in contrast the industry as a whole is becoming more adept at analysing and managing data to maximise revenue. It seems only natural therefore that attention would switch towards services.

“The smartphone market has reached maturity and growth rates seem likely drop in 2015 as the average revenue per user declines despite data usage rising exponentially. The CW conference will discuss whether significant value can be gained by moving to data analytics for monetisation, enabled by sophisticated software and low cost hardware,” says Loraine Stone, UK Country Manager at Telefonica Dynamic Insights and speaker at the conference. “Telco providers using their expertise in insights generation to provide innovative services now appear to be leading the way when it comes to developing the business models for the future.”

The move towards data monetisation ties in well with another central theme of the conference focused on The Internet of Things (IoT) with speakers from CSR and Accenture Digital UK and Ireland. As the IoT revolution gathers pace, forward thinking companies must predict how they will manage the endless amounts of data churned out by connected devices around the globe.
