Topo mapping for Canada added to ViewRanger Outdoors GPS app

Hot on the heels of its USA launch, ViewRanger has added national topographic mapping for Canada to its ViewRanger Outdoors GPS app and My.ViewRanger.com online community for outdoor enthusiasts.

Sourced from Natural Resources Canada, this new high quality map layer can be purchased “in-app” and allows mapping for all of Canada to be streamed to an Apple or Android device and for map areas to be stored on the device for when offline access is needed, such as for use in places without cell signal.

The maps offer a range of zoom levels from national overview to topographic detail at 1:50,000 are available for a one-off in-app purchase price of $4.99.

The award winning ViewRanger app offers a comprehensive range of features to help outdoors enthusiasts with a smartphone to get more from their sporting passion. In addition to plotting GPS location and track recording, the app supports route planning and waypoint navigation, includes sports computer mode and phone to phone/phone to web location sharing. The app is web & social media integrated via its My.ViewRanger.com route planning, publishing and community portal, so it’s easy to share a record of your adventures with your friends.

ViewRanger comes with free access to global “open” mapping layers such as OpenCycleMap and OpenStreetMap. You can then add, through in-app purchases, premium map charts sourced from national mapping agencies and premium cartographic publishers. With premium maps available for USA, Canada, New Zealand, and for 14 countries in Europe, ViewRanger offers the widest selection of high quality outdoor topographic maps available for smartphones and tablets.

Commenting on the launch of topo mapping for Canada, Craig Wareham CEO at ViewRanger said “It’s great that we’ve been able to add high quality mapping for Canadian Outdoors enthusiasts – and to do so shortly after the great response we received in January for the launch of the USA edition.”
