Lunchtime Business Lecture features Michael O'Leary, CEO Ryanair

Michael O'Leary, CEO of Ryanair, is the speaker at a special lunchtime Cambridge Network Business Lecture on Tuesday September 8th.

Michael has served as Ryanair CEO since 1993, during which time he has changed the strategy for the business to keep up the exceptional rate of growth. Ryanair's current  “Always Getting Better” programme aims to take account of views from business users as well as consumers and to date seems extremely successful. Michael will speak candidly about his experience in what promises to be a very entertaining hour.

Please note this event is at lunchtime (11.45 - 1.30pm ), not at the usual time of 6pm, and takes place at Girton College, Cambridge CB3 0JG.

Biography

In Michael's own words: "Born, at Christmas, in a stable in 1961, he was a boy genius, who excelled both academically and in sports.  Having represented Ireland at bog snorkelling and flower arranging, he graduated from Trinity College in Dublin as soon as they could get rid of him.  He became another boring KPMG accountant until exam / airline divine intervention sentenced to him to lifelong servitude in the airline business, as he is manifestly unsuitable for employment in any properly functioning industry.

"Despite his best efforts, Ryanair is Europe’s favourite airline carrying over 100m customers in 2015 at Europe’s lowest fares (saving them over €11 billion p.a.), with great customer service including the most on-time flights of any major airline. Ryanair operates more than 1,600 low fare routes from 73 bases across 30 countries, with a fleet of 330 new Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Ryanair has orders for a further 350 new Boeing 737 aircraft, which should allow it to double in size to carry over 160m customers annually by 2024. Ryanair currently employs a team of 10,000 leading aviation professionals each of whom are dedicated to extending Ryanair’s industry leading 30-year safety record.

"Bearing a remarkable resemblance to George Clooney’s younger brother, it is widely known that most women find him (sadly) resistible!!"

Cambridge Network is extremely grateful to Founder Member Stansted Airport for sponsoring this event and engaging Michael as the speaker.
