114 Mill Road is a real slice of Cambridge high street history; in fact there has been a butcher’s shop on the same corner site since the early 1900s. More recently it was owned by the well-known Cambridge butcher, Andrew Northrop, who bought the shop from the equally famous Mr Fabish in 1999.

Owner Gary Howlett, who recalls visiting the shop as a boy when it was owned by Fabish, then later worked with Andrew and finally took over the business in 2013.

Bringing things right up to date, Gary has taken inspiration from the diversity of the local Mill Road area and the abundance of great local produce to offer an amazing range of meat products to his customers. Alongside a selection of beef, lamb, pork and chicken are Spanish meats, Kangaroo burgers, ostrich steaks and even crocodile.

The shop also prepares and sells cooked food including pies, pasties and stocks and game season in the autumn sees the shop stocking fallow and red deer and game birds, all from local private estates.

At the cornerstone of Cambridge Mill Road Butchers is the welfare of the animals, which is why they source all of their meat from high quality farms and can trace the products back to their origins. Pork comes from Dingley Dell Farm in Suffolk, chickens from Label Anglais in Essex and Sutton Hoo in Suffolk and quails from Norfolk. The great choice of beef at the shop includes Riverside, Aberdeen Angus, Hereford and British Blue.
