This year The Cambridge’s Community Partnership Programme was adapted to have a greater focus on why The Cambridge was originally set up in 1850; to help provide homes for people. Therefore Wintercomfort, which supports men and women who are homeless or vulnerably housed by offering them vital welfare services and opportunities for learning and training, is the perfect synergy to start a year of fundraising.
The first activity of many is helping to prepare and serve breakfast. Twice a week staff from The Cambridge will be supporting the Wintercomfort team. This started with Andy Lucas, The Cambridge’s Chief Operating Officer and Carole Charter, Head of Marketing putting their aprons on to serve up a hearty and warming full English breakfast.
Some of the other activities the team leaders have planned are a donations week, quiz, golf challenge, sleep out and giving learning and development sessions at Overstream House, Wintercomfort’s Cambridge base.
Andy Lucas, comments; “Having supported other Cambridge homeless charities personally it’s been great to come down and see the fantastic work Wintercomfort do. You can see first-hand how the welfare services including breakfast, shower and laundry are truly appreciated by the service users.
“One of the ways The Cambridge is different is the number hours all of our staff donate to make a difference to our charity partners. Fundraising is vital but coming here lending a hand and getting stuck in is just as important. Plus, everyone needs someone to do the washing up.”
Sarah Halls, Director at Wintercomfort adds; “We are really pleased to welcome Cambridge Building Society’s team to Wintercomfort to support with our breakfast and welfare services over the next few months. We are looking forward to working with them all over the coming months while raising much needed funds together”.
