Surgery unit unveils operation to recruit

A service which makes a huge difference to the health and happiness of patients in and around Cambridgeshire is searching for new recruits.

The Ely Day Surgery Unit, a satellite unit managed by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is searching for those with an interest in working there.

The unit is based at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Lynn Road, and specialises in day cases including plastic surgery, orthopaedics and oral surgery. They are undertaken on a day case basis, meaning patients go home the same day.

Organisers welcome newly qualified, experienced and return to practice nurses and Operating Department Practioners (ODP’s), in addition to students and others interested in becoming Health Care Support Workers (HCSWs) or Theatre Support Workers (TSWs).

The unit is holding an open day between 9am and midday on Saturday 8 September where visitors can meet the teams and take part in interactive tours and hands on demonstrations.

Senior Sister Lesley Lambourn, who will be there on the day to welcome guests, said “We are a friendly, close-knit team which offers a really important service to our patients. Our message to anyone who thinks they may be interested is ‘come along and find out more’. We offer on-going support, training opportunities and flexible working.”
