Neuro Critical Care Unit Staff Nurse Kerry-Anne Barber and Nursing Apprentice Roxy Henry used social media to explain how many patients arrive from miles around for specialist treatment, but often with no belongings.
Big-hearted supporters rallied round the hospital, which is part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, including the Haverhill branch of Saffron Building Society which acted as a collection point for more than four weeks.
Kerry-Anne explained: “We have a beauty trolley on the unit for staff to access free toiletries for patient use and we also make up small bags for relatives to use when a loved one is admitted. Currently we fund this via donations from staff, relatives and help from the charity fund.
“We decided to make an appeal on social media and were amazed by the fantastic response. We would like to say ‘thank you’ to everyone who helped, especially staff and customers at the building society, as it is so important for patients.”
