This position is responsible for supporting commercial operations in all customs and trade matters. You will be the first point of contact and you will be expected to support from both a strategic and operational perspective. Commercial operations move materials globally and therefore the role holder must have a global view and a broad consideration of customs matters end to end.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will support the creation of new supply chains to identify customs risks and opportunities, continually review existing supply chains for ongoing compliance, and identify customs regimes for optimal commercial supply chains. You will act as a functional SME for the commercial operations teams, ensuring that commercial supply chains and distribution adhere to key areas of trade management and compliance. You will also develop and deliver training on key customs and trade matters to key stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements

The role holder will have considerable relevant Customs experience preferably in a corporate or professional environment.

The role holder will have the ability to shape AZ’s operational Customs capability covering supply chain, conduct Customs audits, and dispute management and implementation of Customs Duty regimes and ongoing operational effectiveness.

The role holder will have a deep understanding of Customs law and its application to valuation, origin, classification and duty reliefs. The role holder must have the ability to take a strategic view while bringing to bear appropriate focus on the underlying detail.

In addition, the role holder must demonstrate sound judgement and be able to make timely decisions and recommendations regarding potentially material issues in circumstances where there is either uncertainty or incomplete information.

Skills and Competencies

  • MBA or other Finance / Business qualification relating to International Trade.

  • Strong experience within a customs and trade environment.

  • Strong understanding of Customs laws and how they apply to global supply chains.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to identify and communicate key issues for resolution.

  • Thinks strategically – Anticipates the future by always maintaining a forward oriented long term view.  Develops plans that are based on what is likely to happen and continually flexes the strategy to accommodate new business and tax technical information.

  • Problem solving oriented and a well-developed creative approach regarding complex Customs issues. 

  • Good analytical skills - Proficient in MS excel essential, experience in MS Power BI desirable.

  • Acts decisively – Creates clarity for other to make decisions by defining clear roles and responsibilities.

  • Ability to evaluate/manage relationships with external service partners.

  • Works collaboratively – Works across boundaries, particularly with the Customs teams in UK, Sweden and the US, to establish common purposes and goals to deliver value to the business.

  • Rapidly addresses issues that may inhibit effective collaboration.

  • Familiarity of the pharmaceutical/clinical supply chain environment advantageous.

  • Good communication and influencing skills are also required.
