The role

The S/4 Data Design Expert - Tax l is responsible for coordinating on all business data requirements within the related S/4 HANA design process and providing a best practice tax data model proposal into the design process. Along with contributing to defining and documenting the S/4 Enterprise Data Standards as a key output and ensuring that existing SAP ECC data is fit for purpose at the point of migration to S/4 HANA.

The role is aligned to the Enterprise Process Owner (EPO) Record-to-Report (R2R) organisation and the R2R Data Design Lead team and supports the relationship between the S/4 Data & Analytics organisation and the EPO, whilst proactively engaging with the wider business (including data offices and governance forums) to ensure that the S/4 data design meets business requirements, aligns to SAP standard where possible and that S/4 data can be used with confidence achieving a Quality Core. The role will require robust Tax Data Model design experience, solid expertise in designing robust Master Data Management and Governance concepts as well as SAP S/4HANA and soft skills

Typical Accountabilities

Land S/4HANA target state business data standards (data definitions, business rules, data governance concept) by providing data subject matter expertise into the global process design cycle, ensuring process designs align with S/4HANA data best practice concepts and process data requirements are collected and consolidated into robust data documentations.

  • Land the definition, documentation and implementation of S/4 Enterprise Data standards related to the tax data model, including master data, reference data and metadata – confirming the business context and ensuring alignment in accordance with defined data governance.  To include the development of conceptual models, business glossary and ontologies.
  • Apply data, process and object expertise to lead the overall tax data model design for tax processes. acting as an integral part of the process design and data teams, considering both business process and analytics requirements.
  • Collect and share relevant as-is Tax data structures and harmonisation assessments alongside best practice to-be Data Design proposals and feed into the Global Design process where useful.
  • Ensure Tax Data requirements are represented and covered in dependent data object designs by working closely with parallel Enterprise Process Towers and Data Leads.
  • Involvement in defining the change journey from current to future state data design including completion of change impact assessments and outline of critical use case examples.
  • Ensure that data within Taxation data domain complies with the S/4 HANA Data Governance Framework and AZ Global Data Standards.

Contribute to the development of the S/4 Data Quality Strategy and support its execution through steering the data quality approach for data within Tax domain area enabling simplified migration, interim state, and the ongoing management of data to ensure that it remains fit for purpose post deployment.

  • Lead the prioritisation of data delivery as related to Taxation, reporting on progress to the R2R Data Design Lead and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Support relationship with current business data capability to ensure that S/4 design and the wider enterprise data design remain aligned (including supporting interim state).
  • Contribute to the development of the S/4 Cleanse and Migrate strategy and execution approaches and plans.
  • Support and contribute to the cleanse and enrichment approach for data within R2R Taxation data domain in accordance with the overall data cleanse strategy.
  • Provide support to project data migration processes, including the co-ordination of pre and post load business sign off.
  • Assist the S/4 Data Governance team in the creation of effective global procedures to ensure that each R2R – Tax data asset is governed throughout its lifecycle.

Essential for the role

  • Qualified Accountant or tax professional with significant experience in defining and designing tax data models in both transactional processing and tax reporting processes. 
  • Abie to define, design and implement best practice use of  data objects within tax processes.
  • Specific experience of designing and implementing tax data models across one or more of the following areas:  direct tax compliance, indirect tax compliance, withholding tax recording and compliance  or tax engines.
  • At least one life-cycle project of tax data model definition, design and implementation in a process and/or technology solution.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of how business data requirements support process execution and analytics, with the ability to explain complex data concepts to business users – and the implementation of best business practices.
  • Data Stewardship driving the design and implementation of Data Standards for a global enterprise with significant geographical and functional footprint.
  • Demonstrable SAP working knowledge across transactions and reporting in an SAP environment, including an understanding of how data integrates within an SAP architecture.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and prioritisation skills with the ability to influence others to achieve objectives.

Desirable for the role

  • S/4 HANA implementation programme experience. 
  • Experience in life sciences and healthcare.
  • Experience in Data Governance
  • Experience in measuring, managing and improving Data Quality.
  • In depth knowledge of relevant key business processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a diverse, global team, within and across functions. Experience with global working and across cultures.
