Cambridge Network peer groups underline importance of learning from like-minded people

Peer groups organised by Cambridge Network's Learning Collaboration are going from strength to strength, as local businesses discover the value of learning with and from like-minded people. Their success highlights the continuing growth and dynamism of the Cambridge cluster, with companies increasingly investing in learning & development to help people reach their full potential.

...undoubtedly the most interesting and enjoyable personal development training I have undertaken during the whole of my career.

Cambridge Network's dedicated training division, the Learning Collaboration, runs a number of facilitated peer groups, aimed at bringing together individuals from different organisations who tend to be on a parallel in terms of career progression. One of the most sought-after groups is for New Managers. It has proved so popular that the Network team is now running a waiting list for a second group.

Louise Rushworth, who organises the Learning Collaboration peer groups, says: "The New Managers’ group is for those with six-plus months' experience of management, typically, although some people are on their company's ‘fast track’ schemes.    They will often have done a little management training.  The September start date is now full and I’m wait-listing people for the next cohort; date to be arranged."

She says that recruitment is also underway for further groups – one for Experienced Managers and another for Strategic Managers. "The Experienced Managers’ group is for those who have been managing large teams of people for several years, and we still have a few places available for the next set of sessions."

Feedback from previous groups has been incredibly positive, with a former delegate commenting:  “Attending the Experienced Managers' peer learning group last session was undoubtedly the most interesting and enjoyable personal development training I have undertaken during the whole of my career.”

Louise explains that the Strategic Managers’ role tends to be more senior, for Chief Operations Managers, Heads of Marketing, Programme Managers and Senior Project Managers who have been managing large teams for many years, though often their role also drives company direction strategically.

"The start date for this is Wednesday 28th September and we'd like to hear from anyone who would like to take advantage of the opportunity to join," she adds.
