Learn how to do better business

Helping Cambridge Network members do better business is the underlying principle of all its Learning Collaboration courses. Courses coming up next month are no exception, as they respectively aim to help you overcome cultural barriers and understand finance.

Working in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) Region on 13th June acknowledges that working with other cultures is rewarding and interesting. However, we sometimes have misunderstandings because we expect others to behave just as we do. To understand other cultures, we need to know what is beneath the surface - the norms, history, values and assumptions - all of which influence how different cultures behave and communicate.

This one-day session does just that.   It will provide you with a useful template for understanding both your own and different cultures, where the gaps lie, and where there is potential for misunderstanding.

At the end of the course you will:

  • Have learnt about your own cultural preferences and how these impact on others in the workplace
  • Have understood what ‘drives’ and motivates your international colleagues
  • Know how and when you need to modify your behaviour to create a positive impression and avoid giving unintentional offence
  • Be able to use a range of techniques for effective communication using “International English”
  • Have learnt practical business and social etiquette tips that will be immediately useful.

Finance for Non-financial Managers on 30th June is also a one-day course, this time designed to send you back into your business confident in your understanding and application of basic financial terms and concepts.

It assumes no prior knowledge and uses everyday terminology to dispel the mists put up by the financial world which perhaps encourage you to believe it is difficult – it isn’t; and what’s more, it can be fun!

You will leave with the ability to:
•Manage working capital and cash flow better
•Maximise profitability
•Read financial statements
•Interpret the figures
•Understand the jargon used in the financial world.
