Product design and development firm Cambridge Consultants has won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade. The accolade is in recognition of the success of the company’s ambitious growth strategy, which has seen overseas sales grow by 74 per cent since 2012. Overseas trade now accounts for around two-thirds of the firm’s business.
This is the third time Cambridge Consultants has won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise – and its second success in the International Trade category, which it first won in 2009. It also won an Innovation award in 2011 for its groundbreaking through-wall radar technology Prism 200.

For more than a decade, Cambridge Consultants has grown every year – both in the UK and across key international markets – and now has a global workforce of 750. In the last three years alone, it has doubled the scale of its US East Coast presence in Boston; acquired the140-strong Synapse product development business on the West Coast of the US; and opened sales offices in Singapore and Tokyo; as well as growing its UK facilities.
Cambridge Consultants is widely seen as a founding father of the Cambridge technology cluster. Its 57-year history has seen a string of world firsts – ranging from the world’s first wireless implanted pacing system to the ground-to-air radio system controlling air traffic over the majority of the planet. The company recruited 100 people last year and plans to recruit a further 100 or more employees during 2017.
