Courses aim to help you manage your teams effectively

Cambridge Network members will benefit from two courses later this month which aim to help managers overcome some of the common issues they face. The courses - run by the Network's Learning Collaboration - offer practical guidance for those who need to handle conflict in the workplace, or who are leading virtual teams.

Handling Conflict on 21st March  acknowledges that when conflict occurs, it can have a far-reaching impact on motivation and performance.  Conflict can break down relations and damage trust - and in some cases may require skillful intervention to resolve the situation.

Managers who have an understanding of how to avoid and manage conflict situations can help maintain harmony and achieve greater team effectiveness.  This one-day programme looks at the main strategies of conflict and typical behaviours that should be managed to help reduce both the frequency and impact of conflict.

Leading Virtual Teams on 31st March addresses the fact that these days teams are unlikely to share the same workplace, time zone or culture.  Increased tele-commuting and flexible working means that time and space boundaries demand more agile and skilled leaders who can develop and lead teams who share common goals, support and trust each other and can collaborate across the organisation.

Without an effective leader, a virtual team can fail to build the trust and shared understanding which underpins effective teamwork and fail to deliver effectively.   Equally they may fail to use technology effectively and be a team in name only.

This one-day programme enables leaders to:

  • Understand the challenges of leading a virtual team
  • Learn the six different types of virtual team and identify your own team’s type and the interventions which will raise performance
  • Build high performance across virtual environments
  • Recognise the characteristics required by an individual to perform at their best in a virtual team
  • Develop an action plan for leading their virtual team more effectively
