CPD success means training is still a priority in Cambridge

Despite the pandemic, Cambridge Network companies and individuals have continued to invest in training to improve their knowledge and skills, together earning a total of more than 6,500 CPD (Continuous Professional Development) points.

The coronavirus outbreak forced Cambridge Network's Learning Collaboration to move its training courses and workshops online, but uptake did not suffer, with local businesspeople collectively spending a total of 1230 hours' training in the past year.

Now the Network team is producing and distributing annual certificates for the impressive number of CPD points amassed during the 212 Learning Collaboration courses which have taken place – just about one course for every working day of the year.

“Everything we offer is in response to requests from our members and demand has not diminished. In the past few months, our team has been busier than ever,” says Sarah Gleadell, the Network’s Head of Learning and Development.

“It was unfortunate when many of our face to face training courses had to be cancelled earlier in the year. But we – and our amazing cohort of dedicated trainers – were unfazed and we moved quickly to a virtual model.

“All the CPD courses we run face to face are also CPD accredited when delivered online, so we have been able to maintain the same level of quality throughout this difficult period. In fact, some delegates have welcomed the opportunity to do training remotely, as it removes geographic barriers and saves people time – no one has any need to travel,” she added.

In total, the Learning Collaboration offers 20 accredited courses including:

  • Assertiveness skills workshop
  • Confident communication
  • Dealing with difficult behaviour
  • Effective communication
  • Facilitation skills
  • Improving personal impact& influence
  • Interview skills
  • Introduction to coaching
  • Introduction to presentation skills
  • Introduction to project management
  • Managing people for the first time
  • New managers peer group
  • Project management and leadership
  • Project management for non-project managers
  • Psychology of persuasion
  • School for scale ups
  • Strategic managers peer group
  • Time management
  • Train the trainer
  • Transition to management

Individuals who complete an accredited course earn a CPD point for every hour of training, proving that they value the opportunity to keep their knowledge and skills up to date. As such, CPD is beneficial for employees’ career progression and advancement.

For employers, CPD ensures that professional standards are high and consistent, maximising staff potential and enabling best practice to be shared.
